Why use Bamboo Products?

We all know that we should be minimising the use of plastics in our life but when it comes to tableware and especially if you have kids, plastic is usually the most durable option to stop cups and plates breaking.

While glass and ceramic are better for the environment than plastic, they also are more fragile and break if dropped and since they are heavier, they are harder for your kids to use.

Bamboo reusable tableware on the other hand is more durable, lightweight and unlike plastic it’s made from sustainable bamboo and is eco-friendly and biodegradable at the end of its lifecycle.

What Exactly is Bamboo Tableware Made From?

Bamboo eco tableware is made from bamboo, cornstarch and an eco-friendly resin. The eco-friendly resin is mixed into the bamboo fibres and cornstarch mixture and it’s the resin that makes the bamboo tableware hard and durable. This means if you drop it (unlike ceramic or glass) it will most likely survive and not break. This doesn’t mean that it’s indestructible but if you follow the care instructions, they will last for years.

Bamboo is the perfect material for making eco-friendly tableware products because it’s a sustainable crop that grows very fast without any pesticides and insecticides which means it’s better for the environment. Bamboo can be harvested over and over again because when the stem is cut, the plant will grow new stems to replace it which means it doesn’t have to be replanted.

Long lasting and Reusable 

Bamboo tableware is eco-friendly, durable, lightweight and non-toxic. They will last longer when they are used and cleaned according to their instructions. This means they can be washed in the dishwater and to make them last even longer, make sure they are fully dry before putting them away and avoid any water residue. However do not use them in the microwave as this will destroy the bamboo tableware.

Non-toxic

Not all bamboo tableware products are made equal but you can rest assured you and your family will be safe with Young Spirit’s eco-friendly bamboo eco products. Ours are plastic-free, non-toxic and BPA-free.

BPA can leech into liquids or water while having hot drinks and studies have shown that BPA can impair and disrupt the immune system so it’s best to be avoided. 

Biodegradable & Eco-Friendly

Bamboo and bamboo made products have abundant carbon which helps to facilitate the decomposition of the material and help it break down when returned to the earth.

Young Spirit’s bamboo tableware products will take approximately one year to break down in soil (a maximum of up to two years) whereas traditional reusable plastic cups, plates and bowls can take up to 500 years to break down.

Easy to wash

While bamboo eco tableware may seem like they would be hard to clean and look after, they can be washed normally and can even be put in the dishwasher! To extend their lifespan, just ensure that they are completely dry before putting them away especially if you are stacking the cups. Just give them a quick wipe with a tea towel before you put them away as moisture build-up can deteriorate the durability of the bamboo products. 

The Range

The range features two collections; the floral collection which draws inspiration from our sleepwear collection and our Alice In Wonderland collection featuring illustrations from the 1911 edition.

The range includes reusable coffee cups, mugs, drinking cups, plates, bowls, lunchboxes & re-usable cutlery.

The Reusable Bamboo Coffee Cups are available in 8 designs and feature a resealable ‘no-drip’ silicone lid and heat resistant silicone band.

The Bamboo Mugs come in sets of 2 or 4 and are lightweight and can be used for hot or cold drinks and are great for kids.

The Bamboo Drinking Cups come in a set of 4, and are a great alternative to plastic tumblers.

The Bamboo Plates come in a set of 4, and are great for picnics, bbqs or at home.

The Bamboo Bowl Set come in a set of 4 and can be used at home or for the great outdoors like picnics, camping, birthdays or backyard parties.

The Bamboo Pet Bowls come in a set of 2 so you can use one for pet food and one for water and contains no nasty plastic to keep your pets safe.

The latest products to be added to our eco bamboo range are our Bamboo Lunch Box and Travel Cutlery Set.

The Bamboo Lunchbox is perfect for kids and adults alike and features a silicone band to keep the lunchbox secure even when tossed in a bag.

The Travel Bamboo Cutlery Set is great for keeping in your bag (especially as states start to phase out plastic cutlery). The case is small and compact enough to fit into any bag, while the cutlery clicks together to become full size. The set contains a fork, knife, spoon and chopsticks in a handy case.
